Trilogy Winery from Banja near Arandjelovac was ranked among the world's wine elite, according to the decision of expert evaluator Mr. by Mark Squires (Mark Squiers) to give Merlot Barique Seal 2016 a whopping 90 Robert Parker points!
This exceptional news pleased the owner of the winery Trilogija, Mr. Dragan Mijailović, who told us: "We are extremely honored that such an authority placed us on the wine map of the world, in our first attempt, with 90 points! For those who don't know, Robert Parker's grades of 90-95 points have the descriptive label OUTSTANDING, which means OUTSTANDING! We have worked and lived for this kind of recognition from the very beginning, and this is our future! Thank you Robert Parker team, thank you mr. Squires, who brought us this great news and rewarded our exceptional efforts to maintain quality and exceed our customers' expectations. Move on!"
Here is what the expert evaluator Mark Squires wrote in the explanation of his decision: "Merlot Barique 2016, also contains 10% Cabernet Franc. It matured for 14 months in a new Serbian oak barrel and comes with 15,4% alcohol. Although it doesn't seem like it on paper, it holds the balance well. Black as ink, it starts with a bit of creaminess from the wood and then improves in the glass. It has reasonable finesse with a good finish. This is a very modern Merlot, as set by Gilbert and Sullivan, and it does very well in this style. This wine is not like a fruit bomb without other advantages. It is very good even now, although it can still be improved in the cellar. You can consume the wine immediately, but it will be better in a year, and should last at least another decade. In Serbia, the price of this wine is around 22 euros, but it is still not exported."
