A BOOK
My name is Miodrag Ilić. Ten years ago, my wife Dragana and I started a portal about food in Serbia called Recipes and cookbook online.
Since 2016, we have been collecting and storing traditional Serbian recipes and information about traditional ways of preparing food. Serbia is a unique corner of the Western Balkans, with a well-known food tradition.
Why is Serbian cuisine so specific? Because it represents a unique collection of cultural and culinary diversity of peoples and history, created during the past centuries... The mixture of Turkish, Greek, Bulgarian, Hungarian and other cuisines makes it rich and diverse.
The book contains 109 recipes from all parts of Serbia, divided geographically: northern Serbia (Vojvodina), eastern Serbia, southern Serbia, western Serbia, central Serbia. In addition to the fact that, in essence, all regions overlap a lot, but they also have their own peculiarities.
The book is in two languages, Serbian and English. In addition to the mentioned 109 recipes, you can read stories about the history of cooking in Serbia and the importance of traditional food preparation (under the stove, stewing, cooking...) on people's health.

For more than 10 years, we have been making efforts to discover and creatively use the culinary culture of our region. During that time, we collected a lot of information, recipes, experiences and stories, read a lot of old books, which we are happy to share through this book.
All of this helped us realize that it is much more than a bunch of recipes. It's about preserving culinary culture, honoring the stories of our families, all our deceased relatives, looking at how people in their region survived and developed by relying on local resources.
We have created a bilingual book of 340 pages called "Traditional Recipes of Home Serbian Cuisine" with a 70-page introduction that talks about the history of food culture in Serbia, followed by 109 unique, old, traditional recipes, combining past and present, presented in all regions of Serbia .
Today we are asking you to help us print the second edition of this book. Help us preserve the culinary heritage of our region and share the experience of living in this unique place with people around the world.
A FEW MORE INFORMATIONS...
The book was first printed in May 2018, the first print run was 1.000 copies. The designer is Danijela Paracki, Master of Applied Arts. The book is illustrated with hand-made drawings by Dušan Pavlić, and it was printed by the Alta Nova printing house on professional machines on high-quality printing paper.
WHAT DO WE NEED MONEY FOR AND WHAT IT WILL BE SPENT FOR:
- Redesign: pagination, translation, professional editing: EUR 900 (approx. USD 980)
- Printing of 1.000 copies: EUR 6.000 (approx. USD 6.500)
- Posting, packing and shipping fees: EUR 1.000 (approx. USD 1.090)
- Total: EUR 7.900 (approx. USD 8.580)
All money that exceeds the set goal will go towards printing the book. If we don't reach our funding goal, we will print fewer copies, enough for all backers to receive their reward.
