Alphabet for those who fast

The season of fasting is well underway, as well as the ascetic euphoria. And I can't help but be surprised when I see what is classified under the "lean" category. I wonder what is the point of fasting when so much attention is paid to food?! Isn't fasting something else entirely?!

Most of those who are fasting would prefer to eat some sizzling piece of meat, but, my God, fasting of course ;).

And so, I wonder and laugh for days, years...

Holidays are celebrated a lot, and special attention is paid to "fast" moments... Fast this, fast that... I read and laugh non-stop. I still can't believe how uninformed we are. I believe that it is a matter of general culture, but also of intelligence.

If a product says that it is of plant origin and that it contains milk proteins... What does that mean?! I would say that most read only the first two words and that's it! It seems that in schools we did not learn to read according to Vuk, let alone anything else? What is the essence of fasting?! Being trendy or something else?!

I don't fast, but I don't judge those who do. I believe that sin does not enter the mouth and that one should not exaggerate in anything, not even in designing fasting foods. In our country, it is hard to imagine a meal without meat, so I understand people who have a hard time fasting, but I don't understand why they decided to do it?!

People who are not vegetarians, vegans or lovers of Eastern cuisine will find it difficult to accept fasting food except beans and potatoes and possibly fish. But, due to trends, they also choose food that is less acceptable to our people for celebrations. I have mentioned several times that you should not do anything by force, do not prepare food because of trends but for yourself.

I have been a vegetarian for almost 20 years. I have always prepared food that is not so easily acceptable in our area... Some call it creativity, and some frown upon it.

Everything for someone, something for everyone!

And here, after two decades, I am finally in the trend 😀 😀 😀

I remember when my grandfather almost got angry with me, and I had no bad intentions, I just made something in my own style... He was doing something in the yard, he got tired, he was hungry like a wolf... And when it was time for lunch, he came in, sat down and he took hold of the pot... I could see by his expression that his eyes had darkened, although he never said so. He never got mad at us kids or raised his voice and we got on his head… Now… I wish he could comment.

My dad classified eggplant in the category of "trulex cloth" (he now consumes it).

And after my meals, mom was able to ask the question: And, what are we going to eat now ;)?! He is not commenting now 😉

My older sister, who was a meat lover, loved my stuffed peppers! Now… He is no longer with us…

The younger one is certainly not a fan of povje, but one rainy day she ordered my bućkuriš ;). Now he's looking for advice 😉

When I came to Belgrade, I lived with my aunt and čeča... One day when čeča came back from work and asked me what to make for lunch, I said: Something like beans! Alas, no one knew about his troubles... Afterwards he told everyone about it:... I ask her what she has for lunch, and she tells me that it's something like beans... And when I opened the pot... Yaoooo... All that something small and green 😉

Now... It would be nice if he had the chance to try that little green one again... "Something like a bean" was a mung-green soybean that is more similar in composition to azuki beans and other types of beans than soybeans.
I even grew azuki beans in the garden one year - watered them, picked them and took them out of those tiny pods 😉
And pumpkin, I don't like it, but I found a way to love it 😉

And that's it... I expressed my opinion, but I note that tastes should not be discussed.

If you want to observe all forms of fasting, carefully study the composition of the foods you buy, noting that you must also be an expert in chemistry.

But if you get stuck, there is a well-known google search engine that will give you answers to all your questions and solve all your doubts. For fasting days, I recommend some of the following foods and products (I am listing the ones that came to mind first, of course there are more fasting products):

A- azuki beans
B-banana
V- wine
G-mushrooms, (fresh and dried)
D-mussels
Đ- ginger
E- endive (type of salad)
Ž-cereals
Z- greens and spices
I- anchovies
J-strawberries
K- cocoa
L-chickpeas (chickpeas)
Lj-love of food ;)
M- honey
N- oranges
Nj-gnocchi
O- nuts
P- beans
R- carob
S- soy and dried fruit
T- tofu cheese
Ć-vegetable meatballs
U- oils (cold pressed)
F-Facebook as an inevitable ingredient-source of information 😀
H-bread (various types)
C-beet
Č- chia seeds
J-generics (in the form of jam or marmalade)
Š-stir (amaranth)

There are also those who don't fast, but frown and grumble when they see hummus and comment: What's wrong with you all, you and in restaurants... That hummus everywhere :D!!!

You can replace low-fat milk with low-fat milk made from almonds, hazelnuts, soy, rice, etc. You can prepare all of these milks at home.

Indispensable whipped cream when preparing creamy desserts, you can replace it with soy whipped cream, which is not so easy to find in our stores. If you whip the whipped cream with water, you have done nothing - the whipped cream is made from fat milk, so the addition of water does not make it lean.

Casein=milk protein=not lean!

When it says on the packaging: may contain traces... It is an informative notice for people who are allergic to some of the mentioned ingredients. Priests say that these foods can be used during fasting. From various vegetables and nuts, you can make delicious salads. And even tastier sweets than fruits and nuts.

Do not forget to replace proteins of animal origin with proteins of plant origin. I recommend chickpeas (in any form) as well as legumes. From small grains, I single out: chia seeds, chia seeds, sesame seeds, quinoa, buckwheat, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds... I advise that when preparing lean food, experiment with the use of spices because in that case they will be more acceptable for meat lovers (by spices I do not mean ready-made mixes are already pure spices Ready-made mixes often contain ingredients that are not lean).

Include olives in your diet when fasting. I've been eating them since almost. I couldn't see them before, now I adore them 😉

(if you prepare this spread (pate) during fasting, when serving, reduce the Parmesan cheese).

I am especially concerned about the group of people who are fasting and say: I can't wait for the fast to end and eat like a man!
Well, I don't know how to please them ;)!
