Grandmother's Vanilla - Danijela Žikić - Recipes and Cookbook online

Grandma's vanilla ice cream - this is a recipe from my grandmother's book. You know those little notebooks with yellowed pages. There are the best recipes. The measurements are a small coffee cup, flour as needed.

And there is no explained procedure as to how it is made. Grandma knew the preparation process by heart, so she didn't even write. Of course, there is my mom 🙂 who has been making vanilla ice cream according to her grandmother's recipe for years, so she explained the process to me.

They are very tasty, crispy and melt in your mouth. The longer they stand, the tastier they are (but, that was not possible, because when I made them, they disappeared in no time). From the mentioned measure, you get 40 vanilla beans.

Grandma's vanilla, ingredients:

  • 200 g of fat
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 5 spoons of sugar
  • 200 ml milk (2 small coffee cups)
  • 4 bags of vanilla sugar
  • 500 - 600 g of flour
  • if necessary, jam
  • if necessary, powdered sugar

Grandma's vanilla ice cream, preparation:

  • Beat the butter, sugar and vanilla sugar with a wire whisk until it turns white and the sugar melts. When it gets a creamy white color, add egg and yolk. Mix everything. Gradually add flour to obtain a soft dough that does not stick.
  • Transfer the dough to a work surface sprinkled with flour and knead. Roll out the crust 1-2 cm thick with a rolling pin. Use a brandy glass to make circles. I made one part of the circles with a brandy glass, and the rest of the circles with a small coffee cup.
  • Arrange in a tray on baking paper. Bake at 180 C for about 10-15 minutes. Take care that they do not burn and turn yellow. After exactly 12 minutes of baking at 180 C, I got this white and nicely baked inside.
  • Join the hot circles with the jam of your choice (my choice was cherry jam) and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Arrange the vanilla beans in a bowl with a lid. Cover the cooled vanilla beans so they don't dry out. An excellent selection of cakes for all types of serving!
