How to - Easy - quick scone

In our house, it often happens that we run out of bread, and we only notice it when we are all already hungry. So there is no time for kneading the bread and the whole waiting process. You know the one, you knead for half an hour, then the dough rests for 2 hours and rises, then you knead, then the dough rests again... I often wonder with such recipes, when does the housewife rest?? Joking aside, but if you don't have a bread maker, then the process of making homemade bread is really time-consuming and often laborious.

Well, if you have ever found yourself in a situation where you have hungry mouths around you, and not a crumb of bread in the house, here is my recommendation for a quick scone. Because when there is no bread, a quick scone is also good, right?

Quick cake, ingredients:

  • 2 cups of yogurt
  • 4 glasses of sharp flour
  • 2 baking powder (about 25g)
  • on the tip of the soda bicarbonate knife
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • a little oil

Quick cake, preparation:

  • Turn on the oven at 250 degrees.
  • Sift 4 cups of flour into a deep bowl. Add baking powder and salt and mix by hand. First, add one cup of yogurt, then knead the mass until it comes together slowly, add the second cup of yogurt and continue kneading. The dough should be soft, but not sticky.
  • Choose a baking dish, a baking sheet, a pan - whatever is convenient for you. For this amount of dough, it is better to choose a smaller and deeper container, my pan is 20 cm long, so I get a short and plump loaf. Grease the bottom of the bowl with oil, spread the dough, prick it with a fork in several places (or make a decorative pattern) and coat the top with oil (I always use olive oil).
  • Now reduce the oven temperature to 180 degrees, insert the bread and bake for about 15-20 minutes, depending on the strength of your oven. The bread is baked when a nice crust is caught on top.
  • Take out the bread (loaf), sprinkle it with water (you take a handful of water and literally splash it on the hot bread - I use two handfuls of water) and wrap it in a clean cloth to cool down a bit.

With us, it doesn't have time to cool down, because it's delicious and so hot. Wrapped in a cloth, it can stand for two days, for sure. Maybe longer, but this is verified, because it is the maximum we managed not to eat it.

Quick scone recipe is for 6 people
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Heat treatment: 15-20 minutes in the oven at 180 degrees
Total preparation time: 40 minutes

Now, this is the basic recipe. But I'm not one of those people who can make identical things more than once. A flaw or a virtue, I wouldn't know, so I had to experiment here as well. So, you can make variations on the theme - which I often do, so I always have longer bread.

You can mix different types of flour, but never more than 3 types. When mixing, for example rye flour and white flour, the omer should be 3 cups rye and 1 cup white. Always leave that one cup of white flour, whatever flours you mix it with.

Of course there are also spices. You must have had the opportunity to try those scones and breads from the price category of kilo of meat = slice of bread. Kudos to individual authors of scones and bread and the skill with which they make them. But you, like me, can try to mix spices and seeds into your bread that really hurt yours.

These are a few of my combinations.

Quick scone, combination one

  • aleva praprika, 1 teaspoon
  • saffron, on the tip of a knife
  • ginger, a pinch
  • dried small basil, 1 teaspoon
  • ground cumin, a pinch
  • curry, on the tip of a knife
  • of fine black pepper, on the tip of a knife
  • ground flax, 1 teaspoon
  • raw sesame, 1 teaspoon

A quick scone, a combination of two

  • chopped walnut, handful
  • chopped almonds, a handful
  • raisins, a handful
  • powdered sugar, spoon
  • vanilla sugar, bag
  • cloves, 4 crushed
  • cinnamon, a teaspoon
  • (this looked like a cake and was best eaten with warm milk or butter)

Quick scone, combination of three

  • ginger, a pinch
  • curry, on the tip of a knife
  • of fine white pepper, on the tip of a knife
  • olives, 10 pieces - finely chopped and dried (put them on a paper towel to absorb the juice)
  • dried celery leaf, a pinch

Honestly, there were more combinations, but I don't even remember them all now. I believe that you will also let your imagination run wild, so combine and try...

When the grain is added, it crumbles a little more when cutting, but it doesn't matter - everything is full of flavor.

So this is a really quick cake and a sufficient amount for 6 people (a little bit hotter anyway).
