"New Year's box" as a gift for the youngest
Belgrade, December 11, 2015 - The company METRO Cash & Carry Serbia and Crédit Agricole Serbia organized a New Year's performance in the Sava Center for children from natural families, and a sensitive material condition. More than 1000 children enjoyed the mini-musical called "Magical New Year's Cake", which in the most beautiful way evoked the spirit of the upcoming New Year's holidays and made the youngest and their families feel that they were not forgotten. After the musical, the children were presented with New Year's packages.
Today's performance was held as part of the traditional humanitarian project New Year's Box, which METRO Cash & Carry Serbia and Crédit Agricole Serbia implement in cooperation with the Secretariat for Education and Child Protection of the City Administration of the City of Belgrade and the humanitarian organization Food Bank. Starting this year, the emphasis is on supporting natural families and improving the quality of life of children in them.
In addition to the representatives of the two companies, the event will also be attended by the mayor of Belgrade, Siniša Mali, as well as the city's secretary for education and child protection, Snežana Đurić.
"For children, New Year's holidays are the most beautiful part of the year, and especially for these little ones, whom we want to thank in this way for being good all year. Apart from the children from Belgrade, for the first time we will also send gifts to other local governments. A certain number of packages will also go to the Association of Persons with Disabilities, then the municipality of Kuršumlija and the Center for Social Work in Novi Bečej. We are obliged to make sure that children's rights are realized, but also to help their families and at least show with small signs of attention that they are not left to themselves, but that there is someone to take care of them", said the mayor of Belgrade Siniša Mali.
The children watched the performance with enthusiasm, and in addition to hanging out with Villa Dobril and the actors of the musical, who brought smiles to the youngest, they were also delighted by real New Year's boxes full of sweets, school and hygiene supplies, which were specially prepared for them by employees from the companies Crédit Agricole Srbija and METRO Cash & Carry Serbia.
The New Year's Box project has been successfully implemented since 2009, and so far more than 11.000 children in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac have received New Year's packages. The multi-year duration of the New Year's Box action is proof of the importance of this project in supporting families facing social and other challenges and raising society's awareness of the need to include everyone who can help.
The New Year's box is a continuation of the humanitarian action Magic breakfast, which was organized by the companies Crédit Agricole banka Srbija and METRO Cash & Carry Srbija and the non-governmental organization Banka Hrane at the beginning of this year. At that time, more than eight and a half tons of food was provided for the needs of schools for children with developmental disabilities.
