Meatballs and potatoes in the oven - meatballs combined: Maltese and our way. They are prepared relatively quickly, you can freeze them and take them out later as needed.

Meatballs and potatoes in the oven, ingredients:

  • 600 g of minced meat (beef, veal and pork)
  • 2 small onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves of garlic (crushed)
  • 1 egg (whole)
  • 100 g of bread crumbs
  • 3 spoons of tomato puree
  • 200 ml tomato sauce
  • 50 g Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • so

  • parsley (finely chopped)
  • 500 g of white potatoes (cut into slices)

Meatballs and potatoes in the oven, preparation:

  1. Mix minced veal, beef and pork in a blender.
  2. Fry the onion, pepper and salt in a little oil, until the onion softens and acquires a golden color. Add the garlic.
  3. Using your hands, mix minced meat, eggs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, breadcrumbs and fried onions in a deep bowl. Mix until you get a uniform mass. Shape them into equal balls. The mass should not be too sticky, nor too dry.
  4. Fry them on both sides until golden in a little oil. Then add a little tomato puree (3 tablespoons) and fry for a few more minutes.
    If you want to freeze them, do so before adding the tomato puree. Set aside.
  5. Peel and cut the potatoes. Add tomato sauce and water and 2 tablespoons of oil to the wok and put the potatoes cut into slices. Cook for 10 minutes. It doesn't need to be fully cooked, just a little soft. During this time, most of the water will evaporate.
  6. Take out the remaining potatoes and sauce and arrange the meatballs on the tray. Bake in a preheated oven for another 15 minutes at 200 degrees.
