March 8 is International Women's Day, a day marking women's struggle for economic, political and social equality. This date was accepted in 1917 as International Women's Day, and since 1975, the United Nations has introduced the official celebration of International Women's Day.
This day is marked in memory of the 1908 strike of the International Union of Textile Workers, which was one of the largest unions in the USA at the time, and which happened exactly on March 8. For the first time, Women's Day was celebrated as a national day on February 28, 1909 in the USA, when the Socialist Party of America issued a declaration. In Serbia, International Women's Day was officially celebrated for the first time in 1914 in Belgrade.
