Stewed fresh cabbage - young cabbage prepared this way is even better with the addition of fried pork or beef steak...

  • 2 kg of fresh cabbage
  • 1 onion
  • 2 pieces of carrot
  • 2 tablespoons of vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of allspice
  • salt (to taste)
  • pepper (to taste)
  • cumin (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato juice
  • fats (or oils, to taste)
  1. Cut the cabbage into noodles (slightly larger than for salad). Pour water into a small pot, add salt and vinegar. When it boils, pour it over the cabbage and let it stand for a few minutes. After that, drain it well from the water.
  2. Pour oil or fat into a suitable pan, add finely chopped onion and carrot cut into rings, fry for 3-4 minutes and add squeezed cabbage. Stew it while stirring for at least half an hour, then add tomato juice, pepper, add salt if necessary and cumin. If you wish, you can add a teaspoon of allspice (I also added a bit of hot pepper) and transfer the dish to an ovenproof dish and put it in the oven to bake for another 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  3. During this time, fry the steaks as desired and serve together with the cabbage.
