Homemade strudel with walnut filling - an old, proven good recipe.

Homemade strudel with walnut filling, ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 500 g of flour,
  • 200 ml of milk,
  • 40 g of fresh yeast,
  • 2 egg yolks,
  • 4 spoons of sugar,
  • 1 pinch of salt,
  • 80 g of butter.

For the filling:

  • 400 g of ground walnuts,
  • 300 g of sugar,
  • 300 ml of milk,
  • 2 vanilla sugar.

To coat:

  • 1 egg yolk

Homemade strudel with walnut filling, preparation:

  • Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk, add sugar and mix.
  • Pour flour into a deep bowl, add dissolved yeast, egg yolk, melted and cooled butter, salt and knead the dough.
  • Cover with a clean kitchen towel and leave to rise.
  • Knead the resulting dough on a floured work surface and divide it into two parts. Mix both parts to form noodles.

For the filling:

Combine ground walnuts, sugar, vanilla sugar in a suitable bowl, add cold milk and mix everything well so that all the ingredients are combined.

  • Roll out the noodles with a rolling pin, coat them with the prepared filling and roll them up.
  • Place both rolls in a baking tray lined with baking paper.
  • Coat them with beaten egg yolk and let them rest for 10 minutes.
  • Bake the strudel in a well-heated oven at 180 degrees for 40 minutes.
  • Take the finished strudel out of the oven, cover it with a nylon bag, and put a wet kitchen towel over it.
  • Leave to cool, cut and serve.

Advice:

If desired, you can sprinkle the strudel with powdered sugar. Beat the egg whites from the remaining egg whites.
