Gurabije - Vesna Pavlović - Recipes and Cookbook online

Gurabie, an old, well-known recipe. I painted on a crochet hook, the work of my own hands. We used to gather in the village, one evening at one neighbor's house, then at another, then at my house, and so, until deep into the night, we would sit and crochet, embroider and talk. We would also prepare some bacon.

Gourabije, ingredients:

  • 900 g of flour,
  • 300 g of sugar,
  • 2 tablespoons of milk,
  • 4 eggs,
  • 1 level teaspoon of baking soda,
  • 200 g of pork fat.

For sprinkling:

  • 2 spoons of sugar,
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped walnuts

Gurabie, preparation:

  • Beat the fat and 100 g of flour well with a hand whisk. Pour the rest of the flour into a deep bowl, add fat, sugar, milk, baking soda and eggs (separate one egg white from the side).
  • Knead the dough and roll it into a large circle with a rolling pin. Use a round mold (or a glass) to take out the gourabies and arrange them in a baking sheet lined with baking paper.
  • Beat the egg white foam with a hand whisk, then put a small spoonful on top of each gourabi.
  • Sprinkle with chopped walnuts mixed with sugar. Bake the gourabies in a well-heated oven at 180 degrees until golden brown (about 15 minutes).
