Innovation week 2018, which will be held in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš from May 28 to June 1, was announced today in a unique way with the laser-musical performance of laser harp virtuoso Goran Ferenc, doctoral student of ETF.
She welcomed media representatives, participants and guests on behalf of the AFA Association Žaklina Nikolić-Kušić program director "Innovation week 2018" who said that the AFA association consists of female experts from various fields as well as corporations that have gender equality in their business strategy such as IKEA, Telenor, Asseco, Aik Banke, Delta holding, Belmedic, Aura, Esensa and many others . AFA is dedicated to the economic empowerment of women and their affirmation through the initiation of important social topics and the creation of projects that contribute to the improvement of society in which everyone will have equal opportunities. "Innovation week 2018" is one of them and aims to create a platform for connecting science and business and to present domestic potentials and the best examples of innovation once a year, both in scientific institutes and in the growing startup community, but also to include leading domestic and international companies from whose experiences we can learn. "Innovation week 2018" wants to become the leader of the conversation about the importance of innovation and knowledge for the development of the economy and improvement of society.
Minister responsible for innovation and technological development Nenad Popović stated that Innovation Week 2018 is a meeting place for businessmen, the scientific and research community, students and the innovation community to work together to encourage innovation in Serbia. "It will be an opportunity for people from business, science, students, as well as all those who deal with innovation to discuss what is not only the future, but also the present," remarked Popović. He stated that the Government of Serbia maximally supports innovative ideas, and that he will also be a participant at Innovation week 2018 and added that he will be ready to discuss all topics of the conference - Internet of Things, blockchain, e-health, telemedicine, IT application in agriculture, robotics... "Perhaps due to the war and sanctions, some of our industrial capacities have remained below European levels, but in education, scientific-research activities and the academic sphere, we are at the level of Europe and the world", emphasized Minister Popović. He reminded that through the Fund for Innovation Activities there are five programs for non-reimbursed financing of startup companies, whose funds range from 80.000 to 300.000 euros. "Also, in the budget for 2018, funds for financing and development of innovations and technologies have been increased five times, and we have two new programs in our plans," said Popović. He pointed out that the first program is to open and finance regional startup centers throughout Serbia so that young people in other cities of Serbia, not only in Belgrade, Novi Sad and Niš, can develop their ideas and establish startup companies. Another program of the government concerns the encouragement of female innovative entrepreneurship because, according to Popović, 90 percent of those who submit applications to the Fund for Innovation Activities are men. "Women are equally capable as men, and better students, but there are fewer of them in entrepreneurship, and through this program we want to give them support for developing entrepreneurship," Popović said.
Acting Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Milo Tomašević pointed out that he hopes that Innovation week 2018 will become traditional, as well as that it will turn into a month of innovation in the coming years. "I hope that Innovation Week 2018 will bring new value to society and become a meeting place for science, business, technology, individuals and organizations of the academic community, with the goal of prosperity and a better economic environment in Serbia," said Tomašević.
Dr. Milica Đuric-Jovicič, acting director of the ETF Innovation Center and program director of Innovation week 2018" for science and technology said at the beginning of her address that Innovation Week 2018 will showcase the best people from Serbia who deal with the most modern topics in the world and achieve world-class results. "I am proud that the program managed to bring the academy, university and industry together and that members of the Government joined us. This program shows how innovations and technologies help to make our life better and more beautiful, and this is what I try to promote throughout my scientific career. One of my motivations for organizing Innovation week was also to answer the question of many people, why, even though I have prestigious diplomas, I am not leaving the country. I want the public to know that it is possible to do world-class projects here in Belgrade, with smart, hardworking, talented people. ETF's Innovation Center (ICEF) has recognized the following areas as strategic areas of its work: ICT, IoE (Internet of Everything), smart factories, eHealth. Accordingly, ICEF established the aforementioned laboratories, but also a laboratory for continuous education, because a good engineer must constantly learn and follow technologies, as well as the demands of the labor market. But apart from professional education, it is necessary to have good communication with other sectors, to monitor what they do, what their problems are and how we can get involved and help our technologies, or theirs to us. That's why conferences like this, which provide insights from different angles, are extremely important and can contribute to new projects and the creation of new products. At a time when many are worried whether artificial intelligence will lead to job losses, connecting people and starting a dialogue between top professionals from different fields can lead to the creation of new jobs and jobs. It will be interesting to see how many new partnerships will emerge after Innovation week 2018.

Goran Ferenc, laser harp virtuoso and doctoral student at ETF, which was a real prelude to the upcoming Innovation week, says that the laser harp was created as a result of his interests in science, on the one hand, and music, on the other.
"The laser harp is an instrument that is played by covering the laser beams with the hands and thus generating the appropriate sound. The specificity of the laser compared to the real harp is that any instrument can be played through the laser because it is connected to the computer, and that is why today we heard the saxophone and the violin", explained Ferenc. Jean-Michel Jarre, a French instrumentalist, composer and pioneer of electronic music, introduced the laser harp in the 80s, and following the example of Michel Jarre, Goran Ferenc made the first laser harp in Serbia.
