Cocktails are usually prepared on some special occasions, but also in everyday situations, when we want to awaken all our senses. Because a cocktail, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, is not just a drink, it is primarily the product of an elegant performance by a good bartender. And our guest today is a bartender by profession - Goran Trailović, Kokteli Požarevac.

In a short conversation with Goran, we found out how much effort and talent it takes to invest in this profession, but she always generously returns it to every satisfied guest...

Goran, how did you start bartending?

Technically, I have been bartending since 2000 and I have had a rather varied and unusual professional path... While, I can say, long ago, in 1999, I worked in Pozarevac's "Non Stop" bar and bakery as a bartender, I had to complete a bartending course... That was my ticket to the world of cocktails.

After that, everything went as it should, I did cocktail promotions with famous bartenders at the time, and realized that it suited me and that I could do it professionally. In the years that followed, I worked in many clubs, even in 2006 I opened my own bar on Cheops beach...

Currently, my primary specialty is cocktail bar catering, through the association Požarevac cocktails and slowly enter the world molecular mixology...

What makes a bartender - a bartender, that is. cocktail master?

In my opinion, and you will hear this from every successful bartender - it is the way of thinking, the lifestyle and, of course, the character of the person plays a big role in all of this.

It is a very complicated and unusual skill, which is a combination of several factors. Knowing people, recognizing their needs, a sense of beauty, harmony, a positive attitude in life, cheerfulness, a smile... I could go on and on... Let me add: dexterity and agility are also important, because this makes a bartender up-to-date - and what especially instills trust guests…

To summarize, in general, a bartender transfers his energy to the cocktail he prepares. Every cocktail is different, from bartender to bartender, that's the main difference between them...

Are you saying that charisma is undeniably important for a bartender, ie. its success?

I would agree with your question, ie. I would say that it is also a statement. According to one of our best bartenders, it is a public job and everything a bartender does happens in front of the guest's eyes, and a bartender who incorrectly presents a cocktail, its preparation, tasting, i.e. who has no charisma, is visibly different from what he should be - probably less successful because of it.

All this gives a specific effect, which is the basic and starting point for gaining the sympathy and trust of the guest. In the end, this is rounded off by the quality of the product, i.e. COCKTAIL.

At the beginning of the conversation, you mentioned that you are the founder of the non-profit association Kokteli Požarevac?

Yes that is correct. Cocktails Pozarevac have been around for 3,5-4 years and that is the result of experience and constant improvement in the bartending business. Accumulating years of experience, I realized that it is very rewarding to work for yourself and your own account, and at the same time, to do a job that you love.

In the team of the Kokteli Požarevac association there are several bartenders, mixologists, flairtenders, who deal with exhibition flair, Flair Team Belgrade, headed by Aleksandar Nastasović Sle, as well as a team of hostesses who give everything a note of beauty, elegance and prestige, as well as the organization of Kokteli Požarevac it gives the possibility of creating a positive atmosphere and good advertising.

All this was done with the aim of promoting cocktail culture and bringing people closer to the art of making and drinking cocktails.

Now that we know what the bartending profession is like, what can clients expect from the Pozarevac Cocktails association in the upcoming (this) year 2016?

Currently, we are working on several areas. Of course, it's basic mixology, Ie. cocktail bar catering at events, such as weddings, birthdays, receptions, banquets and the like... Every joyous occasion is a real opportunity for us to beautify the celebration with our performance and give it a touch of elegance and prestige. One of our favorite events, which we prepare upon request, is the pyramid of champagne glasses, up to 180 cm high, made up of over 220 glasses, which is an attraction in itself at every celebration!

For the coming year, i.e. season, we are preparing a list of some 60 cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, with lots of love, which we will present soon. Those cocktails are a combination of different energy, love and ideas and are real little works of art. And finally, what would you say to young people who want to do bartending?

Your question made me laugh the most. To be serious - the professional path of a bartender is very difficult, but just as rewarding, because in every smile of our guest, there is an unprecedented satisfaction, which the bartender absorbs... if you understand and find it... then you are doing the best job in the world!
