"The best vanilla in Milice!" - this is how the final part of the competition for the selection of the best traditional recipe could be described, i.e. of recipes for the best Serbian vanilla for 2020, which took place on the premises Tourist organizations of Serbia.

The best recipe according to the evaluations of the expert jury was sent and prepared by Milica Živković of Bele Crkve, so on this occasion we will talk about her culinary skills and little secrets for preparing the best recipe for vanilla ice cream.

What is your favorite home cooking recipe?

My favorite recipe of the home kitchen is pork chops with ribs, with a simple white cornmeal dressing.

Who or what is your cooking inspiration? Your mother, grandmother, a famous chef, a blogger...?

Since I grew up in Međuvršje near Čačak, from a young age mothers taught female children to prepare food, because that was the way it was in the village. Since I'm interested in everything, at that time I used recipes from various old cookbooks.

What has been your biggest success and biggest failure in the kitchen?

The biggest success in the kitchen is winning the first place for the best vanillas in Serbia in 2020. Biggest failure? We all know which part of the day we spend in the kitchen, that we try our best to make meals, desserts, turn out the way we want. But, sometimes, mistakes happen. I can single out a situation where I put salt in the cake instead of sugar.

What is your favorite recipe of international cuisine or that you have tried on a trip?

My favorite recipe of international cuisine is lasagna and spaghetti.

Which country and destination would you like to visit and try their cuisine?

I would like to visit Italy and try their cuisine.

What are your favorite spices for savory dishes and which for sweets?

My favorite spices for savory dishes are: pepper, basil, oregano, while for sweets I mostly use: cinnamon, vanilla and cocoa.

What is your favorite recipe that you have published in any medium?

There are more favorite recipes, but I would single out fruit cakes.

How did you experience the victory in the competition for the best vanillas of Serbia for 2020?

I experienced the victory for the best vanilla with great surprise. I am speechless and at the same time, I am overjoyed, because I am the one who won. I would like to thank you as the organizer, the Tourist Organization of Serbia, as well as the committee that declared my vanillas the best.
I want to continue participating in the competition and I want you to last a long time in those waters.

The best Serbian vanilla ice cream recipe by Milica Živković:

Vanilla, ingredients:

  • 250 g of fat,
  • 1/2 kg of flour,
  • 1 egg,
  • 2 egg yolks,
  • 6 spoons of sugar,
  • juice of 1 lemons,
  • 1 vanilla sugar,
  • 5 tablespoons of apricot jam,
  • 100 g of powdered sugar.

Vanilla, preparation:

  • Beat the fat and sugar well, then add the egg, flour, vanilla sugar and lemon juice and mix.
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin, cut out cookies of various shapes with a mold and bake for 15 minutes at 180 degrees.
  • Combine two at a time with apricot jam and roll in powdered sugar.
