Food is expensive, so you should know how to extend its shelf life in a very simple way.
We know a few tricks that won't cost you anything and will help you save more on your household budget.
Store the mushrooms in a paper bag
For the long-term freshness of mushrooms, it is important that the fruits are dry and stored in a dark place. That's why paper bags are much better allies than plastic. If your mushrooms get too dry in the refrigerator, soak them in water for a short while to refresh them.
Treat fresh parsley like a bouquet of flowers
When you buy fresh herbs, instead of putting them in a plastic bag, immerse the stems in a glass of water and place them near a natural light source, e.g. windows. In this way, you will slow down the rotting process, and you will also get effective bouquets, which will improve the smell of the whole home.
Wrap aluminum foil around the celery
If you want your celery to be crisp and fresh as long as possible, wrap it in aluminum foil. The aluminum foil prevents gas from escaping from the vegetables, which is responsible for premature rotting. This tool is also very useful in extending the shelf life of bananas.
Do not put tomatoes in the refrigerator
Not only do refrigerator temperatures destroy the taste and texture of tomatoes, but they also destroy the fruit itself. To get the most out of tomatoes, keep them on the kitchen counter and allow them to ripen to their maximum at room temperature.
Be careful when storing apples
If you put an apple in a bag of potatoes, you will prevent this vegetable from germinating and thus extend its shelf life. But apples give off ethylene gas, which will cause most other fruits and vegetables to spoil. It would be best to put the apples in a plastic bag and put them in the fridge.
