Yogurt in baby food

Yogurt is a delicious treat for your baby that is most often made from cow's milk, although there are different variations (and depending on the country you are in) and it can be made from goat's, buffalo's, sheep's and even camel's milk. Jcucumber  in the baby's diet you can include it almost immediately and its abundance of calcium is beneficial for your baby.

What does yogurt contain?

Full-fat yogurt contains vitamins A, B6, B12 and D, as well as the minerals calcium, thiamin, magnesium, and phosphorus.

Yogurt is also rich in protein, which, due to the way it is obtained, is gentle on your babies' tummies.

For parents who already have hereditary allergies and intolerance to dairy products in the family, carefully give and introduce yogurt and later other dairy products. Yogurt can cause allergic reactions in babies and occurs in about 3% of babies on average. The symptoms that occur are: diarrhea, vomiting, irritation, swelling and rashes on the skin.

When should yogurt be introduced to babies?

Although some pediatricians advocate that we can give babies yogurt immediately after the introduction of solid food, most will still suggest that it be the period between 7th to 10th month of life. Full-fat yogurt is the healthiest for your baby, as it contains the most nutrients, as babies need fats for their development during this period.

Why are yogurt and cheese allowed before the first year of life?

Yogurt and cheese, and therefore kefir, are specific when you introduce them to the baby's diet, even though they are dairy products. One of the main reasons given is that breast or formula milk will not be replaced by yogurt or cheese, and early consumption of dairy products in large quantities will not be healthy for your baby. And the second reason cited is lactose, which is still mitigated in yogurt and cheese because the proteins are either removed or reduced. The third is that the process of making yogurt allows easier digestion for your baby. Studies have shown that many people who are sensitive to lactose from milk do not have a reaction to cheese and yogurt.

What can I mix with yogurt for my baby?

If you have already introduced all fruits and vegetables to your baby, you can occasionally add yogurt to some meals. There is no need to buy yogurt that has already been mixed with fruit or similar combinations, buy regular full-fat yogurt and add it as desired to the dishes you are already preparing or take a couple of sips from a glass.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Yogurt with apple puree and a little cinnamon
  • Yogurt and blueberries
  • Yogurt with peaches and bananas
  • Yogurt with wheat germ or other grains
  • Yogurt and avokado
  • Yogurt blended with fruit and water to get a "smoothie" (only the fruit that when blended can pass through the opening of your baby's cup or bottle, if not, then put a couple of sips on the cup)
  • Yogurt with red sweet potatoes and cinnamon
  • Yogurt with green beans and pears
  • Yogurt mixed with carrots and peaches

Yogurt contains sugar, ie. lactose and should not be added afterwards. Rather than adding sugar and honey, add a little vanilla, cinnamon or similar spices.
