You must have heard and said many times the expression mentioned in the title. Have you ever wondered how it came about and where it came from? with i axe together?
When something nice happens to someone, when luck suddenly smiles at him, it is said that his ax has fallen into honey, explains Milan Šipka in the language manual Why is it said?. Honey, in a figurative sense, means sweetness and pleasure, something good, beautiful, and can be clearly associated with happiness. Where did the ax come from?
The expression originated in the people, and numerous linguists have searched for its origin. Vuk S. Karadžić in the collection Serbian folk proverbs states the assumption that when felling a tree with an axe, it used to happen that the ax suddenly hit a hole full of honey. That was great luck, and that's how the expression came about.
Since some people did not find this analogy of accidentally finding honey clear and true enough, they replaced the ax with a spoon, and that's how the expression was born dropped spoon into honey. However, when the spoon falls into the honey, it cannot mean sudden happiness, because usually the spoon does not fall in just like that unexpectedly and by chance, and linguists certainly prefer the original variant of the expression.
