Anyone who has decided to engage in blogging, and especially blogging about food and recipes, must also take care of the visual appearance of their site. Everything is important, especially good photos. Here are our tips how to take a good photo of food in a restaurant or your dish, in your kitchen.

First, what you should do is make a decision about creating a recording frame. How will you, for example, display a giant sandwich on the Internet, as you see it in real life? This is probably the most important decision.

Don't grab your phone and quickly snap a couple of photos, which will likely result in blurry or poorly lit pictures. No Photoshop can fix that. Plan the shooting, do it slowly, without nervousness, take enough photos, from which you will always choose the best ones!

Top Down

One of the most popular food photography methods is the Top Down method.. With this method, the subject (object) of the photograph - food, occupies a central place, almost symmetrically, with the same spaces around the basic object. Most often, such photos are taken by standing over the object (food) and taking a picture. This allows you to make the photo almost perfectly symmetrical. Surely you won't be surprised when you see someone in such a pose, above the ordered dish, in a restaurant? Is not it?

Once you've perfected the top-down method, it will get you thinking about the details. And how to capture and display them. You can only do this up close, by having your camera or phone very close to the object (food) you are shooting. For this type of photography, it is essential that the light and focus (sharpness) be impeccable. If you are not sure that you have flawless light or focus, do not take photos!

light (lighting)

What is it, flawless light (illumination)? A lot depends on the location, where you are shooting, in a restaurant or your kitchen. Avoid direct light. Too much light is also very bad for photos. If using your phone, avoid using the built-in flash. If you don't have enough light to shoot, you can use the flash diode from another phone to illuminate the subject. Our advice is to try to find a position, which has plenty of (not direct) daylight, and that will bring you the best photos, for sure!

focus (sharpness)

If your photo has even a little blur, nobody will like it, believe me! Don't bother putting it on Instagram... If you take seriously the previous paragraph about lighting, it will certainly improve the situation with the focus. In addition to good light and brightness (we remind you - daylight is best, not direct), you must hold the camera or phone completely still while taking photos. There are always certain ways to help yourself in this - rest your hands on a piece of furniture, rest your camera or phone on something, etc... Always take a few more photos than you need to make a selection of the best ones and eliminate the ones that have problems with focus.

Space

When you have mastered all the previous techniques, try to put the food "in space", ie. to create a "background" for your photos. Use some natural beauty in your surroundings or around the restaurant (especially if you are sitting in the garden of the restaurant), to take photos, where the food will be part of the colorful scenery!

Take a picture of something people like to eat!

Not an overly innovative idea - but take pictures of food and dishes that people like to eat. Avoid taking pictures of food that doesn't look appetizing!!!
