Almond milk - prepare it yourself

You have fresh almond milk when you need it, and you know that it does not contain any chemicals. You can use it for drinks, as an addition to coffee, to prepare shakes, and use the rest of the almonds to prepare bread, stews, cakes, pancakes.

Almond milk, ingredients:

  • 1 salt of almonds
  • 2 salts of ordinary water
  • a pinch of salt

Almond milk, preparation:

  • In addition to the simplest recipe, each of us has our own preparation system. There are two ways to prepare milk and both start exactly the same. I will write to you how I prepare it.
  • I always peel the almonds, but this time I left the shell for you so you can see what the rest of the almonds look like after preparing the milk.
  • For example, take one cup of almonds and wash them thoroughly with lukewarm water under the tap with a brush. You will see for yourself that washing was necessary. Otherwise, I always wash them, wash the walnuts and dry them in the oven. I'm never entirely sure where it was stored and how much it was exposed to dust. I'm even always thinking about spraying because I've never been told what they're spraying against. So that we don't have to think about it, we take it and wash it.
  • When you have washed them, put them in a bowl and pour cold water over at least twice as much water as there are almonds. Leave it overnight if you are not in a hurry. But if it's urgent, then you can pour lukewarm water over them and the shell will swell quickly and come off easily. So, if you are in a hurry, you can check if the shell is separating. If it separates, then the almonds are ready for the next stage. If you are not in a hurry, feel free to submerge them and let them stand in the water until tomorrow.
  • Why do I shell almonds? I peel them because when I take the peeled almonds to blend (mix) there is no waste at all, because it turns into the finest liquid and everything ends up in milk. When you peel the almonds, wash them with cold water. I always use bottled water to prepare milk, but you can also use boiled water. Never use tap water for milk unless you boil it. The milk will last you several days in the refrigerator, maybe even up to a week, and it would not be good at all if it was plain water straight from the tap, not boiled, because there is a risk of bacteria, and both the water and the almonds would spoil quickly.
  • When you have peeled and washed the almonds and prepared the water, you can bring it to an end. In a blender or some other device that you use for mixing, add almonds and twice as much water, a little salt (literally on top of the night) and you can add some flavoring if you like, I put vanilla. In a good blender, everything will turn into milk and you won't have waste when you strain it with a coarse brush. You can store milk prepared in this way in the refrigerator for up to 6-7 days. I don't know if it could be longer, because our milk lasted the longest until now, 7 days.

If you don't want to peel the almonds, then just wash them well after standing in the water and put them in a blender to blend with twice as much water. Be sure to strain it through a fine brush or thick cheesecloth. Use whatever is left of the almonds ("waste") as an addition to cakes, bread, toppings...

I use almond milk for pancakes, cakes, breads, muffins, and a drink with chia seeds. It really has multiple uses in my kitchen. Almond milk absolutely replaces milk for me. Your imagination will help you make the best use of almond milk.
