Rolls with poppy seeds I like it better than strudel. I can say that I don't like strudel. Even though the ingredients are more or less the same, I still choose the poppy seed rolls.

Baba Yula's recipe served as an idea. Baba Jula is not actually my grandmother, she was my grandmother's grandmother. Rolls have always been made here.

With a note that the rolls were always with sweet fillings - mostly poppy seeds, nuts or jam. These are traditional recipes that are still very popular today.

I prefer poppy seed rolls to strudel. I can say that I don't like strudel. Even though the ingredients are more or less the same, I still choose the poppy seed rolls.

  • 400 g of flour
  • 4 spoons of sugar
  • 1 bag of vanilla sugar
  • 0,5 bags of dry yeast
  • 2,5 dl milk (lukewarm)
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 5 tablespoons of oil (butter, lard)
  • lemon peel (grated)

File:

  • 200 g of poppy seeds
  • 6 spoon of sugar
  • 1 bag of vanilla sugar
  • 1 dl of milk
  • 50 g of raisins

To coat:

  • 1 egg
  • 1 spoons of milk
  1. Combine all dry ingredients, add liquid and knead a smooth dough. Let it double in size.

  2. While the dough is rising, cook the poppy seeds - combine the poppy seeds and all the other ingredients. Cook at a lower temperature for a few minutes from the moment of boiling.

  3. When the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle about 5 mm thick. Cut triangles of desired size. Place the filling on the wider part of the triangle and twist the roll. Repeat the process until you have used all the ingredients.

  4. Leave the rolls in a warm place to rise for about half an hour.

  5. Coat them with a mixture of egg and milk and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.

  6. Bake them in a heated oven at 200-220 degrees for about 15-20 minutes.

  7. You can sprinkle the cooled rolls with powdered sugar.

*Instead of oil, you can use some of the listed fats (melted).
**Instead of dry yeast, you can use fresh.

You can fill some rolls with jam of your choice.
You can put whole eggs in the dough, but in that case reduce the amount of milk by 0,5 dl.
If you decide to only use the egg yolk, you can put the beaten egg whites in poppy seeds or make puddings out of them.
