Rolls with poppy seeds.

Rolls with poppy seeds, ingredients:

  • 375 g of flour,
  • 1 bag of baking powder,
  • 150 g butter (or margarine) cut into cubes,
  • 1 egg,
  • 100 g of powdered sugar,
  • 75 ml of milk,
  • zest and juice of half a lemon.

Poppy seed filling:

  • 200 g poppy seeds (ground),
  • 100 ml of milk,
  • 100 g of sugar and
  • zest of half a lemon.

Rolls with poppy seeds, preparation:

  • Put sugar and milk in a saucepan to heat the milk and dissolve the sugar, add ground poppy seeds and lemon zest, mix well and set aside for the filling to cool.
  • Sift flour, powdered sugar and baking powder into a bowl and mix everything together, add butter (or margarine) cut into cubes and rub the butter and flour with your hands until you get a crumbly mass.
  • Add the zest, lemon juice, egg and slowly add the milk and knead until you get a slightly firmer dough.
  • Transfer to the work surface and knead for a few more minutes until you get a smooth dough that separates from your hands.
  • Divide the dough into 3 parts, leave it in the fridge to cool down for at least an hour.
  • Remove the first part of the dough from the refrigerator, and roll it out very thinly, 1 to 2 mm thick.
  • Cover with a third of the filling, but leave 1 to 2 cm from the beginning of the circle without filling.
  • Cut into 16 parts and wrap the rolls very carefully. Arrange the rolls on a baking sheet covered with parchment paper.
  • Heat the oven to 175°C and bake the rolls for about 20 minutes. Make sure that they are not browned, they should be baked but remain white or slightly brown.
  • Let them cool and then roll them in powdered sugar.
