COMPETITION FOR THE BEST SALČIĆ OF SERBIA - salčići, Jelena Nikolić.

Sauces, ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 4 tablespoons of vinegar (wine or apple)
  • 1/2 l of beer
  • about 800 g of flour
  • 500 g of fat
  • jam
  • powdered sugar

Salčići, preparation:

  • Mix eggs, vinegar, beer and add flour.
  • Knead a smooth dough, not hard, but not too soft (it should not stick to your hands). If necessary, add a little more flour.
  • Beat the lard until foamy.
  • Use a rolling pin to roll out a 1 cm thick rectangular crust from the well-mixed dough and cover with a third of the prepared lard.
  • Fold first the upper part, then the lower part (one third of the crust over the second, then the third over), then the left end, then the right, in the same way.
  • Leave to stand for 25 minutes.
  • Unfold the crust again and repeat the same process as the first time... and one more time.
  • Then, cut the rectangles, fill them with jam and fold them (or don't fill them, just fold them, if you wish) and arrange them in a tray lined with baking paper.
  • Bake for about half an hour in an oven heated to 180C. Once cooled, roll in powdered sugar.
  • Enjoy the taste!
