I got the recipe for these old vanilla cakes from my grandmother from Grdelica near Leskovac.
Vanilla, ingredients:
- 5 spoonfuls of fat at the top
- 1 cup (of coffee) sugar (150 g)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk (75 ml)
- grated rind of 1 lemon
- 5 - 5,5 cups of flour (500-550 g)
- dogwood jam (or any other jam you have)
Vanilla, preparation:
- Combine all ingredients and knead well by hand.
- Roll out the dough, spread it out, and use a rolling pin to cut out circles.
- Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake for about 10 minutes at 200C.
- As soon as you notice that some of the vanilla beans take on a darker color, immediately remove the pan.
- They will seem soft, but as soon as they cool down a bit, they will gain the necessary firmness.
- Fill the cold ones with homemade jam as desired and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
- This time I filled them with homemade dogwood jam.
