COMPETITION FOR THE BEST VANILLA - vintage vanilla - Snežana Kitanović

I got the recipe for these old vanilla cakes from my grandmother from Grdelica near Leskovac.

Vanilla, ingredients:

  • 5 spoonfuls of fat at the top
  • 1 cup (of coffee) sugar (150 g)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk (75 ml)
  • grated rind of 1 lemon
  • 5 - 5,5 cups of flour (500-550 g)
  • dogwood jam (or any other jam you have)

Vanilla, preparation:

  • Combine all ingredients and knead well by hand.
  • Roll out the dough, spread it out, and use a rolling pin to cut out circles.
  • Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper and bake for about 10 minutes at 200C.
  • As soon as you notice that some of the vanilla beans take on a darker color, immediately remove the pan.
  • They will seem soft, but as soon as they cool down a bit, they will gain the necessary firmness.
  • Fill the cold ones with homemade jam as desired and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • This time I filled them with homemade dogwood jam.
