COMPETITION FOR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CELEBRATION CAKE OF SERBIA - My maiden celebration is St. George's Day, I remember my grandmother Sava telling how she prepared a simple cake for the celebration and the only decorations on it were natural flowers.
I made a cake and decorated it with flowers, I believe my grandmother would have liked it. Whatever it is, my grandmother would say: "It's great".
Slavic cake, ingredients:
- 1 kg of flour,
- 1 teaspoon of salt,
- 1 cube of fresh yeast,
- 225 ml of milk,
- 125 ml of water,
- 100 g of fat,
- 2 egg yolks and
- 100 ml of oil.
Slavic cake, preparation:
- Add a little salt, sugar, yeast and a little flour to the lukewarm milk.
- Leave it warm for about 10 minutes.
- When the yeast rises, add oil, water, sugar, egg yolk and flour. Knead the mixture so that it is not too hard.
- Let's leave it for about an hour in a warm place for the dough to rise.
- Divide the dough into four parts.
- We stretch each part and coat it with a little fat.
- We stack one on top of the other, then cut from one side and the other to about 1 cm and interweave.
- We grease the pan, sprinkle it with flour, put a braid on it, then coat it with egg yolk and leave it to rise for another hour.
- Bake in a heated oven until nicely browned.
I decorated the cold cake with natural flowers, and you can make a simple braid, according to your choice.
