COMPETITION FOR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SLAVIC CAKE OF SERBIA - Slavski hleb.
Slavic bread, ingredients:
- 20-30 g of yeast,
- half a cup of milk,
- a little salt
- a teaspoon of sugar,
- flour,
- 3 egg yolks and
- grated lemon peel.
Slavic bread, preparation:
- 20-30 g of yeast is poured with half a salt of milk and stirred.
- A little salt, a teaspoon of sugar and a little flour are added.
- Put the dish in a warm place so that the yeast ferments.
- Add from a kilogram to a kilogram and a half of flour, 3 egg yolks, 3 spoons of sugar, a little grated lemon peel and a few drops of holy water, knead it all while adding a little milk to get a medium hard dough.
- Add a little melted butter.
- Knead until the dough starts to come away from your fingers.
- Place the dough in a deep dish and let it rise.
- Divide the dough into two parts.
- Grease a round mold and put the first half of the kneaded dough into it.
- Form five balls from the other half and distribute them around the dough.
- Spread the risen dough with egg yolk and decorate.
- Decorations for the dough are made from flour and water according to the wishes and taste of the hostess.
- The decorated cake is placed in a heated oven and baked until nicely browned.
