COMPETITION FOR THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SLAVIC CAKE OF SERBIA - Slavic cake.

Slavski cake, ingredients:

For the dough:

  • 500 ml of milk, for the lean version 500 ml of water,
  • about 1 kg of flour type 400,
  • 1 bag of dry yeast,
  • 1 baking powder,
  • a teaspoon of sugar,
  • 2 teaspoons of salt,
  • 2 dcl of oil.

For the decorations:

  • 100 g of flour,
  • 2 spoons of density.
  • 2 teaspoons of salt,
  • water as needed to knead a stiff dough.

Celebration cake, preparation:

  • Add a spoonful of sugar, a spoonful of flour, a bag of yeast to lukewarm milk or water, stir and let the yeast start to react.
  • Put half of the flour, salt and baking powder in another bowl, add the remaining yeast and oil. Knead the dough and add the rest of the flour as needed to knead the dough, which should be soft but not sticky to the hands. (I don't use the whole kg)
  • Transfer the dough to a floured tablecloth, knead it again and let it rise.
  • When the dough has risen, divide it into 2 large and 5 smaller ones.
  • Lubricate the baking mold and put one large noodle in the middle and around 5 smaller ones.
  • Braids are made from the second larger string. Divide into two parts. From one part, braid a braid with two ends and place it on the edge of the cake, from the other, braid a braid with three ends and place it in the middle around a larger noodle.
  • Leave the cake for half an hour to grow a little more, then put it in the oven heated to 220°.
  • Reduce the temperature and bake the cake for about 1 hour.
  • When it is baked, remove the stake from the mold and stick the decorations that were made the day before. The decorations are attached with "glue" made of flour and a little water.
  • Then return the cake to the oven for another 10 minutes so that the "glue" dries.

Preparation of decorations:

  • Make the decorations the day before and leave them on baking paper to dry a little.
  • Mix flour, thickener and salt, add lukewarm water as needed to knead a smooth hard dough.
  • When the dough is kneaded, leave it in a plastic bag for about half an hour.
  • Then roll it out thinly and stamp the letters for the stake.
  • Cut out 5 stamps. From the rest of the dough, make birds, barrels, grapes, ears of corn, a cross, a book, flowers and decorations as desired.

Gluing decorations:

  • A "glue" is made from flour and a little water, which should be thick so that it does not run when it is spread on the decoration.
  • One stamp is glued to the middle of the cake and the other 4 on each side of the cake.
  • Add other decorations as desired.
