Pears in pickle - Gvozdena Živković - Recipes and Cookbook online

Pears in pickle - this is a recipe that should be preserved from oblivion for the younger generations, who are yet to come.

The healthiest recipe, fruit, leaves and water, nature will do the rest. The pickle was prepared by my young and hard-working friend Slavica Pantić from the village of Smilovac, municipality of Ražanj. A person who is interested in everything, turned to me for help, I minimally helped in finding the recipe. Everything else is her merit.

I just write and pass on the recipe for our younger generations.

This pickle requires winter pears, which are popularly called pickled pears. They can hardly be eaten fresh because they taste acrid, like wild ones.

It is best to leave them in a clay-earthen jar or wooden pegs, but a larger glass jar will do.

Pears in pickle, ingredients:

  • winter pickled pears
  • water
  • pear and cherry twigs with leaves

Pears in pickle, preparation:

  • Wash the pears with the stem. Also wash and sterilize the jar or container in which you will leave the pickle with hot water.
  • Arrange the pears in the dish with the stem towards the top.
  • When you have filled the container, arrange the pear and cherry sprigs with the leaf on top.
  • Fill the container with water, tie with cheesecloth. Place the container in a pan or tray so that the boiling liquid drains into the pan.
  • Leave in a warm place and let it boil. This process will take longer or shorter, depending on the heat. When the boiling is over, you can remove the twigs and start using the pickle.
  • The liquid from this pickle also tastes good, it can be drunk as juice.
