Kuglof with chicory.

What is chicory?

It is a very widespread meadow plant. The tender blue flowers are used for salad, while the root of the plant is dried and ground into a powder from which a drink with a taste reminiscent of coffee is obtained.

As I sort through memory, I think I've heard of chicory. But from whom, of course, from my mother Mirjana, I remember her saying that during the coffee shortage, they drank a chicory drink. I decided to use the chicory for something else, to make my favorite cake but with chicory.

So let's see how it will taste. Let's start with the preparation.

Kuglof with chicory, ingredients:

  • 3 eggs,
  • 7 spoons of sugar,
  • 1 spoon of vanilla sugar,
  • 2 dl of oil,
  • 3 tablespoons of chicory,
  • 8 spoons of flour and
  • 4 tablespoons of lukewarm water.

Kugloff with chicory, preparation:

  • Beat eggs and sugar, add vanillin sugar, oil, water and finally flour. Combine everything well.
  • Divide the entire mass into two parts: add ground chicory to one part and mix well.
  • Grease and lightly flour the kugloff mold.
  • Pour the dark mass all over the bottom with a spoon, then pour the light mass over it.
  • Turn on the oven at 180°C (do this when you start pouring the mixture into the mold, by the time you finish pouring, the oven will heat up) and bake the kuglof for about 40 minutes.
  • Test with a wooden stick whether the kuglof is baked, if the dough does not stick to the stick, it is baked.
  • Leave in the mold to cool.
  • Sprinkle the kuglof with powdered sugar.
