Cabbage stew - Jelica Podrašćanin - Recipes and Cookbook online

Cabbage stew.

Cabbage stew, ingredients:

  • 1 head of sauerkraut, about 1 kg,
  • water,
  • 1 full spoon of lard,
  • 600 grams of pork leg meat,
  • 2 onions,
  • 2-3 carrots,
  • 2 bay leaves,
  • so,
  • 1 teaspoon of allspice,
  • some pepper,
  • 4 dl of cooked tomatoes and
  • parsley leaf.

Cabbage stew, preparation:

  • Cut the head of sauerkraut into smaller cubes and put it in a pot in which water is poured to soak the cabbage and bring it to a boil and cook for about 20 minutes.
  • While the cabbage is cooking, clean the onion and cut it into cubes. Put it on the fat and fry it and add the meat cut into cubes to be stewed on the onion.
  • Drain the boiled cabbage from the water in which it was cooked and put it in a pot with stewed onions and meat, pour water to cover it.
  • Add carrot cut into rings and bay leaf and cook until cabbage and meat are cooked.
  • While cooking, add water if necessary.
  • When the cabbage and meat are cooked, add allspice, pepper to taste and cooked tomatoes and salt as needed and cook for another ten minutes.
  • Finally, add a finely chopped parsley leaf.

The dish is very tasty and is for more than one person. It takes a little more time to prepare, but it's worth it.
