Mango is healthy for your baby, but although some pediatricians give the green light for the introduction of this fruit as early as 6 months, most still agree that its introduction should wait until the 8th month, when we start introducing citrus fruits because of possible allergic reactions.

How to choose the right fruit and how to store it?

Mango is not a fruit that is sprayed and contaminated with pesticides, so the choice to buy organic is up to you, but it is not mandatory or necessary.

When choosing a fruit, it should be soft when you squeeze it, but not so soft that it leaves a mark from your fingers. Mangoes are usually reddish orange in color or golden yellow with a hint of orange. Avoid those fruits that have bruise marks. It is not necessary to keep it in the refrigerator, but it is recommended to buy it day by day.

Why is it good for your baby?

Mangoes are packed with vitamin A and contain high levels of carotenoids like almost any other fruit. They say that carotenoids reduce the risk of cancer as well as heart diseases, but let's not go that far, they help strengthen the body even with a common cold.

It is low in calories and fat, but has a high percentage of fiber that helps your baby's digestion. It also contains vitamin CIB, as well as iron, potassium and protein that your baby needs for growth. In smaller quantities, it also contains vitamin KIE, magnesium and calcium.

Allergies?

Mango is a tropical fruit, so it carries risks like most other tropical fruits. Mangoes are not known to cause life-threatening allergies in your child, but the most common allergies are those that cause skin changes such as rashes.

If the child is allergic to this fruit, he will have a reaction to the very touch of mango peel or to baths containing mango.

The content of the fruit itself will not cause any reaction, because it does not contain allergens, but if it happens that you did not peel the mango well, there may be a reaction inside the oral cavity of the child or around the mouth, and even around the bottom during stool.

How to prepare for a baby?

When introducing mangoes to your baby, there is no need to boil or steam them if they are ripe. However, if you have decided to introduce mango to your baby before the 8th month, you can steam it for a short time to soften it.

What can it mix with?

Mango goes well with the following:

  • Avocado
  • Banana
  • Blueberries
  • Peaches
  • Melon
  • Sweet red potatoes
  • Chicken
  • Pork
  • Yogurt
