Dusseldorf/Lyon, January 26, 2017 - METRO supported the world's most prestigious gastronomic competition Bocuse d'Or, the final of which was held in the French city of Lyon. On this occasion, 24 best chefs from different countries tested their skills in the competition for the title of the best chef in the world, and on the way to success, the company supported them as the main sponsor and official partner in the category of vegetarian dishes. The winner of the competition is the team from America, Norway won the second place, and Iceland won the bronze medal.
Final of the Bocuse d'Or international gastronomic competition in Lyon
The famous culinary competition, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, is characterized not only by a long tradition, but also by innovation. This year, the fish dish was replaced by a vegetarian dish, and METRO took on the role of official supplier with great pride, so it created a fresh market for the needs of this category with 146 different products - vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and beans.

The finals of the Bocuse d'Or international competition were held on January 24 and 25 in Lyon. Competitors from 8 METRO markets participated in it - Belgium, Germany, China, France, Hungary, Japan, the Netherlands, as well as Singapore (within Classic Fine Foods). Among the 24 finalists, four teams, from France, Hungary, Belgium and the Netherlands, were supported by local METRO distribution centers during the earlier stages of the competition, i.e. the European finals, as well as during the training and preparatory stages that led them to the finals in Lyon.
In addition to the donated food for the "vegetarian dish" category, METRO also provided the ingredients for the meat dish "bres" chicken and shellfish, which is based on the interpretation of the famous recipe from Lyon "chicken and crabs".
