Belgrade, 02.02.2023 – The Tourist Organization of Serbia (TOS) and METRO Cash & Carry Serbia, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, presented plaques to restaurants that were included in the MICHELIN Guide for Belgrade for 2023. The owners and chefs of 17 restaurants received the famous MICHELIN plate, which provides their guests with a recognizable indicator of the quality, variety and creativity of the food and services they offer.
Awards were presented to the award-winning restaurateurs by Dunja Đenić, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Youth, Marija Labović, Acting Director of the Tourist Organization of Serbia and André Rinnensland, General Manager of METRO Cash & Carry Serbia, as official partners of the MICHELIN Guide for Belgrade.
"Until just a few years ago, the organization of a ceremony on the topic of the selection of Belgrade restaurants for the Michelin guide was a vision that we had, that we strived for and that we achieved, with the involvement of all of us. We actively worked on improving cooperation and concretizing activities with the tourist industry, which was directly reflected in the increase in the number of selected restaurants in the aforementioned guide. The arrival of Michelin in Serbia further contributed to the better visibility and positioning of our country as a tourist destination on the world market, and the fact that for 33% of foreign tourists gastronomy is the main reason for their visit speaks in support of this. Presenting Serbia's gastronomic tourism offer is a chance to create a brand based on indigenous types of products and it is an opportunity to differentiate Serbia's gastronomy as a special tourist product,'' said Dunja Đenić, Assistant Minister of Tourism and Youth.
In the MICHELIN Guide for Belgrade for 2023, in the recommended category, there are: SkyLounge, Metropolitan Grill, Twenty Two as newly awarded restaurants, as well as Bela Reka, Comunale Caffè e Cucina, Ebisu, Enso, Gušti mora, Homa, Iva New Balkan Cuisine, JaM, Langouste, Legat 1903, Magellan, Mezestoran Dvorište, Salon 1905 and The Square, which were also in last year's selection. As part of the second selection from the listed restaurants, the Bib Gourmand label, which signifies excellent quality at an excellent price, was once again awarded to the Iva New Balkan Cuisine restaurant. Restaurant Bela Reka continues to be encouraged by its commitment to sustainability, with a special emphasis on the use of local products and the preservation of tradition.
"I am happy that today, one year after the first selection, we are here again to celebrate new successes together and award Michelin plates to restaurants that, with carefully selected menus and quality of service, make a difference in the gastronomic offer of Serbia. All of them contribute in the most beautiful way to the promotion of Serbia and the strengthening of the positive image of our country. Continuity and a positive trend with Michelin is accompanied by a positive trend in Serbian tourism, so that 2022 was a year of new records when we talk about the number of tourists, the number of overnight stays and the achieved foreign exchange inflow. In the surveys we conduct, tourists give the highest marks to Serbia's gastronomic offer, which, along with active vacations and cultural and historical heritage, is an important criterion when choosing travel destinations, and the Michelin recommendation further confirms this, said Marija Labović, Director of Tourism. organizations of Serbia.
The award ceremony was organized in the premises of the Tourist Organization of Serbia, which over the past years has invested extraordinary efforts in the international promotion of Serbian gastronomy and tourist potential and the arrival of the MICHELIN Guide in Belgrade.
"The continuation of the successful selection of the MICHELIN Guide for Belgrade is an indicator of the strength and quality of the domestic hospitality industry and the Serbian gastronomic scene. Through a video link, Tomi Mausin Europe Director for restaurants Michelin addressed all those present. "Let Serbia be proud of you!", he said to the winners of these valuable Michelin awards.
