Belgrade, November 27, 2018. - Young chefs, representatives of the Junior Chefs Club of Serbia, won a silver medal at the world's largest culinary competition 2018 Villeroy & Boch Culinary World Cup, in Luxembourg. The most prestigious culinary competition in the world is being held for the thirteenth time in a row, from November 22 to 28, under the auspices of the World Association of Chefs.
As the only team representative from Serbia, in the category of regional teams, a team of young chefs from the Junior Chefs Club competed, which, by winning the silver medal, achieved Serbia's greatest success so far in this world competition. The junior selection of Serbia, consisting of Jovan Mijušković, Aleksandra Sarić, Filip Kovačević, Ivan Čimburović, Tijana Pešić, assisted by Jovan Tomović, Uroš Bolić, Marko Komadina and Aleksa Sušić, won silver in extremely strong competition from 75 countries around the world.
The Serbian team presented itself with an exhibition of teamwork in the form of a cold table, composed of two categories - "Pastry art" and "Culinary Art" - with a total of 5 different sections. Through all of this, it was necessary to demonstrate different cooking techniques, as well as techniques for shaping, serving and composition of food.
"The young colleagues once again showed their exceptional talent, effort, and professionalism and improved their previous success with a silver medal at the world's largest and most important culinary competition. I am extremely proud of everything they have achieved and demonstrated in front of a very demanding and strict jury, and I look forward to the next joint ventures and creative challenges ahead of us with particular enthusiasm," said the President of the Junior Chefs Club of Serbia, Nikola Biševac.
How much work, time and effort was necessary to invest in this exceptional success is also shown by the fact that the junior team of chefs prepared for this competition for two whole years, since the end of the previous Olympics, while active training lasted for the last year. During that period METRO HoReCa Center was the place where the competition team spent approximately 480 hours of active cooking and training with their instructors and mentors.
The enormous creative potential of the young Serbian chefs gathered around the Junior Chefs Club was supported by METRO and other partners - McCain, Kotanyi and Gastromaster, and recently they all gathered together at the dress rehearsal held at the residence of the Embassy of Canada in Serbia, when wished the Serbian team a happy journey and success.
During the 5 days of the championship, talented culinary teams presented themselves, with their visions of innovations and trends in gastronomy and numerous original ideas. The competition promotes the social, cultural and economic role of the hospitality sector.
