Belgrade, March 10, 2021. - Mlekara Šabac was recognized as one of the food donor companies in 2020 as part of the CSR Forum conference, organized by the Forum for Responsible Business and the Coalition for Charity.
Šabac Dairy is among the leading food companies that are recognized for their efforts to, despite the regulatory and fiscal framework, donate large quantities of their products, thus contributing to the suppression of hunger, poverty and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
"Sustainable and responsible business is the basic principle of work and the essence of our relationship towards employees and the wider community of which we are a part. That is why solidarity with vulnerable groups is something that we perceive not only as our obligation, but also as an opportunity to do something to improve the entire social environment. Acknowledgments like this are encouraging because they show that we are on the right track and provide additional motivation to strive to provide even more", said Maja Bađin Georgijević, Corporate Communications Manager of Šabac Dairy.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, when the situation both in the world and in Serbia has become even more difficult for all those groups of citizens who are otherwise at risk, donations of food and sanitary products have been of particular importance. That is why Mlekara Šabac initially made a strategic decision to redirect significant annual funds, intended for marketing promotions, to the organization and realization of aid in donations to various social and health institutions in Serbia, most of which are aimed at helping the most vulnerable population. Of course, solidarity is always necessary, not only in response to a pandemic, which is why the company recently, in cooperation with the Croatian Red Cross, donated food aid to the residents of Petrinja, which was affected by a devastating earthquake.
The Forum for Responsible Business and the Coalition for Charity, as well as many food companies in Serbia, including Mlekara Šabac, are actively advocating for the abolition of VAT on food donations before the expiration date, as well as the adoption of a Rulebook that would regulate the donation of food with with a "best before" date that is still safe for human consumption.
