If there's anything I hate, it's selfies, the loser self-portrait you resort to whenever there's no friendly face in sight to ask to take a photo of you with someone, with something, or in front of something. And you see me today, I shot a whole burst of idiotic selfies in my (and literally red-hot) head! God, forgive me, you see I don't know what I'm doing again...
But if it's any consolation, at least I'm not alone. Here I am as a self-operated photographer in the company of Žik Jelić, just a day before the Day of One in Timenow the disappeared Republic. Admittedly, it remained, 46 years ago, immortalized at least in the name of the YU Group. On that day, the YU group was born and here, together with the Danube winds, it has been whipping for exactly 46 years. As if we were the protagonists of some cracked movie from the long-ago barefoot days of childhood, the two of us met today, at noon in Zemun, on the corner of the street where he lives. If we were the kids we were left in our heads, we'd go kick a patchwork or put nails on the track and wait for the train to see what happens. But the two kids in their heads walked to the cafe under the plane trees upstream from the Old Captaincy. On the door of all cafes that are not open on Mondays, including this one, there is a sign: "We do not work on Mondays". Since it was Monday, we had to walk downstream again and force sail into the Old Captaincy. It's not bad there either, they heat up, so the Zeiss lens on the Lumia doesn't fog up either.
What should two kids talk about in their heads, and an old man for the rest of the world, when they know everything about each other? Even what they didn't know, they learned all these years from the biographies that others wrote about them. But something is always found. Today we found our fathers passed away after celebrating their 64th birthdays. Coincidence. The number 64 was an obsession for both of us, until we reached that size ourselves. After that we breathed a sigh of relief. I happily pushed through that year of my life, but Žika almost got stuck in a traffic jam, when the rescuers had to cut the wreckage of his car in order to get him out in one piece. After that, he reset his birthdays, so now he celebrates them starting from that date. Nice, when you get over something like this, then for the rest of your life you and Paul can carelessly hum the Beatles song that chilled your bones until your 64th birthday: "When I'm sixty four"!
I promise that I will no longer take selfies or take pictures of myself, not even in a duet with Žik Jelić. Although I think I may change my mind in the near future - but only if I get my hands on a selfie drone! Well, it's already something that goes beyond the usual selfie-trivial, so while I'm waiting for the miniature drone named AirSelfie to raise enough money to allow it to be mass-produced, check out the kickstarter page with a detailed description of this flying photographer.
