At the conference "Science meets the economy" as part of "Innovation week 2018", the first scientific corporate meeting of its kind, organized by the AFA association and in cooperation with the Innovation Center of the ETF and the Science and Technology Park Belgrade, with the support of the general partner AIK banka ad Belgrade, participants had the opportunity to hear distinguished representatives of the scientific community and business, the startup ecosystem, as well as guests from abroad and representatives of relevant ministries and the Government of the Republic of Serbia. More than 100 participants contributed during numerous panels, lectures and presentations, where the best experiences, examples from practice and innovative projects that contribute to the transformation of the economy and society were presented. During the two days of the conference, participants had the opportunity to hear representatives of the most prominent domestic and international companies operating in the region, such as AIK Bank, Roche, IKEA, Asseco, Siemens, RTS, NIS, Delta Holding, Cisco Systems, Tetrapak, Oracle, Telegroup, Raiffeisen banks, Bel Medic, Karanović&Nikolić, Resalta, Visaris doo, S&T, Heart Pal, etc. as well as technological companies such as Saga doo MBrainTrain, HTEC, Bit Gear, Novel IC, TradeTicity, GameCredits, which operate successfully on the world market. The conference was attended by the most prominent representatives of the scientific community from the most important academic and scientific institutions such as the Rectorate of the University of Belgrade, ETF Innovation Center, Belgrade Science and Technology Park, Mihajlo Pupin Institute, BioSense Institute, Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, Institute of Physics, Innovation Fund, Faculty of Organizational Sciences, Faculty of Traffic, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade, as well as Faculty of Engineering Sciences, University of Kragujevac. The audience had the opportunity to hear representatives of the Serbian Blockchain Initiative and the Digital Serbia Initiative, who attracted special attention and pointed out the chances for accelerated development that lie in the implementation of new technologies. The support of representatives of the Government and relevant ministries was also significant, as they recognized the importance of this initiative, so they made such an important and valuable contribution, among others, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Popović, State Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Assoc. Dr. Meho Mahmutović, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health, prof. Viktor Nedović, assistant minister for international cooperation and European integration from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Biljana Filipović, assistant minister from the sector for international cooperation and European integration of the Ministry of the Environment, Irini Reljin, assistant minister in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications and assistant. Dr. Mihailo Jovanović, Director of the Office for Information Technologies and e-Government in the Government of the Republic of Serbia.

The presentations of guest lecturers from abroad such as Baybars Altuntas, president of the World Business Angels Investment Forum, Eelko den Breejen, head of international health policy at Roche, Carlos Cruz IKEA Customer Experience Manager, Fredrik Härenstam, director of technology and innovation at the company, were especially inspiring. Arthur D Little, Prof. Dr. Staniša Raspopović, Professor at ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Dragan Đuričin and Prof. Dr. Dragan Lončar from the Faculty of Economics, University of Belgrade, prof. Dr. Vesna Crnojević-Bengin, prof. Dr. Sanja Vraneš and many others.

A topic of particular importance was certainly the application of blockchain technology, which transforms economic and social systems from the ground up, and was presented by experts from UNDP, MVP Workshop, the Serbian blockchain initiative, GameCredits, as well as the organizers of the Blockchain Belgrade conference. In particular, there was a dynamic panel on FinTech and the future of cryptocurrencies, in which representatives of Oracle, iPay, Lean Pay, ZweBB and the Bitcoin Association of Serbia participated in addition to AIK banka ad.

The participants had the opportunity to meet the representatives of the growing startup community in Serbia, Impact Hub, Startit, ICT hub, Pirate Art, Health Tech Lab, and during the study visit to Novi Sad, visit the Business Incubator there, which supports the development of young companies. provides all the necessary conditions, consulting, education, connecting with investors to facilitate the start of technological entrepreneurs. During the visit to Novi Sad, the BioSense Institute also opened its doors to the participants of the first Innovation Week, who had the opportunity to hear from young scientists and project managers more about the development process of some of the most successful innovations in the agricultural industry and receive answers to numerous questions. Among the participants of this study visit were Dušica Marijanac from OTP Bank, who was particularly interested in the practical use and the possibility of offering these innovative patents to their clients who are engaged in agriculture, as well as Danijela Pejić from the economic sector of the Israeli Embassy, ​​who was impressed by the possibilities that lie ahead. in IT technology in agriculture and synergy that achieves a significant increase in efficiency in the use of existing resources. The general impression of the participants of the study visit about the first Innovation Week, which is shared by the other numerous participants of the two-day conference, is that it was a great challenge to connect and unite all participants of the startup ecosystem, IT, academic and scientific community as well as representatives of the economy, and the past Innovation week 2018 showed that is that possible.

One of the partners of Innovation Week 2018 is the Privrednik Business Club, which will gather participants on the last day of this dynamic week, and the host will be Željko Tomić, director of Osa computer engineering. The meeting and gathering at the Privrednik Club will be an opportunity for representatives of the scientific and academic community to summarize their impressions and make suggestions for Innovation Week 2019.
