Minister of Finance Dušan Vujović  spoke in his opening presentation about the economic trends and plans of the Government of Serbia for 2018, about economic reforms and trends in 2018, as well as about gender-responsive budgeting. Commenting on the structural reforms, Minister Vujović emphasized that there are nine areas of these reforms as well as eighteen sub-areas, fourteen of which have a gender aspect.

The minister specifically pointed to the importance of the fourth area of priority structural reforms which refers to the business environment and the fight against the gray economy within which gender aspect have got a package of measures to improve access to SME funds and the introduction of corporate governance in public companies with the aim of increasing the number of women members of management boards.

"The path Serbia is moving in every respect is positive and sustainable, which everyone recognizes and Serbia is one of the few countries in the world that managed to reverse the negative trend of falling GDP in the midst of fiscal consolidation, the minister said today at the AFA business lunch Vujović.

"This is the so-called expansive consolidation, since there is a constant thesis that any consolidation must be restrictive. It must, if you don't know what you are doing, it must, if you go too far with restrictive measures and don't know how to combine them with measures that support growth", added Minister Vujović.

The minister said that we should focus on areas that will have a very high growth rate in the future and support things in the field of the digital economy. He emphasized that we should not go back to the past and get carried away with the idea that the share of industry in the GDP should be increased to 60 percent. "Serbia ended 2017 with a surplus of 1,0 percent of GDP, and this year it plans a deficit of 0,6 percent of GDP at the central state level and 0,7 percent at the general state level. The deficit is four times smaller than Maastricht, and all countries in Europe have problems complying with Maastricht", said Minister Vujović. Reforms and restrictive policy were necessary, as he pointed out, because the situation in the budget of the Republic of Serbia in 2014 was catastrophic. At today's meeting of the AFA women's network, the minister stated that, apart from the infrastructure in which the Government of Serbia is investing, the program of economic reforms known as ERP, which envisages the reform of the tax administration and the reform of public finance management, is coming to an end.
