The exhibition entitled "Japonism in Banat: 1869-1969" will be officially opened in the Small Hall of the Zrenjanin National Museum on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, starting at 19 p.m., as part of this year's "Museums for 10" event. The author of the exhibition and accompanying catalog is Dejan Vorgić, curator - art historian of the Zrenjanin Museum.

The National Museum of Zrenjanin has a long tradition of preserving and nurturing Japanese culture in the area of Banat. As early as May 1945, right after the Second World War, the curator Lazar Nikolić and the painter Vasa Pomorišac designed and realized the permanent exhibition of the Museum, which included objects made in Japan. Many years later (2005) this will be repeated thanks to the long-time senior curator of the applied art collection, Mileva Šijaković. In 2009, the Art Department of the Museum organized with great success the "Days of Japanese Culture", which reminded the public both of Japanese art in the past and of its contemporary aspirations.
