The exhibition "Serbian Jews in the First World War" will be officially opened in the Small Hall of the Zrenjanin National Museum on Friday, August 17, 2018, at 12.30:77 p.m. The opening of the exhibition is part of the program marking the XNUMXth anniversary of the deportation of Zrenjanin Jews and fostering the memory of the Holocaust.

This exhibition was created on the occasion of the centenary of the beginning of the First World War and the Jewish Historical Museum in Belgrade dedicated it to all Serbian Jews, men and women, who participated as soldiers or medical personnel in all the wars for the freedom of Serbia in 1912-1918. years. The author of the exhibition is Vojislava Radovanović, museum advisor and director of the Jewish Historical Museum.

The exhibition includes documentary photographs from the collection of the Jewish Historical Museum showing both famous and anonymous Serbian Jews - men and women, officers and ordinary soldiers, nurses and doctors who fought for Serbia. The material was supplemented with two digitally processed photos from the Archives of the Yugoslav Cinematheque, so that the exhibition presented a total of 35 photos, among which, for example, there is an unknown photo of the Serbian-Jewish heroine Nettie Munk carrying a sick man on her back from the period of the terrible typhus epidemic during the First world war. There are also 3-4 newspaper articles from "Politics" from the post-war period, and they refer to the Great War. The original "evacuation diary" from 1916 of the cavalry officer Moše Mevorah, who, in addition to fighting in war, drew exceptionally well, has been preserved, and among the exhibits is a military blanket that "crossed" Albania and protected its owner Gavriel Navonović, a Sephardi, from the winter. from Pristina.

The competent curator of the exhibition is Biljana Dimkić Krčmar, art historian of the Zrenjanin National Museum, and the exhibition will be open until September 8, 2018.
