"Inhabiting these areas in several stages, starting already at the end of the 17th century, in pursuit of a better life, Slovaks originally lived in less favorable living conditions. Over time, they tried to compensate for these life's misfortunes with a beautiful costume, which on the one hand identified and set them apart from other peoples, and on the other hand, by keeping the elements of the costume they brought with them, they maintained a strong connection with their origin and roots.

Due to the favorable social and economic conditions from the end of the 19th century until the first decades of the 20th century, costumes also flourished. For the Slovaks, it represented much more than a simple piece of clothing. Retaining to a greater extent its archaic elements, the costume was modified, taking shape also under the influence of other peoples with whom the Slovaks shared coexistence in these areas. At that time, expensive fabrics from which ceremonial costumes were made were purchased in Pest, Vienna, Prague, Bratislava, Trieste. How important the costume was is illustrated by the fact that well-to-do families spent as much money on making a ceremonial costume as they did on buying an acre of land.

...

Beautiful portraits of Slovak girls, dressed in old Slovak costumes, were included in the capital work, which we called the business card of Slovaks in Serbia. The unusual combination of traditional and modern, shaped through artistic photography, also reflects great respect for three hundred years of Slovak culture and tradition. In order to get to know our Slovak people, in addition to artistic photos with old folk costumes, it is necessary to know the breadth of our Slavic soul, feel the energy, experience our hospitality, learn about history and accept our diversity."

"Why is the visual material collected in this publishing venture so unique?"

First of all: because precisely with the superb photographic relationship, he deeply respects all those historical, cultural, identity, emotional, but also aesthetic layers of traditional clothing, which he conveys to the viewer. Secondly, showing that respect in a creative, innovative and fresh way. The beauty and layered narrative of the traditional costume of the Vojvodina Slovaks becomes visible, legible and enlightening precisely in this way. On expressionless dolls, on yellowed photographs, and even on our old grandmothers and great-grandmothers, that story seems to be without power, as if it is repetitive and therefore insufficiently exciting, as if it was told a long time ago and stored under a thin layer of museum dust."
