Chicken and kohlrabi.

  • 500 g of boneless chicken and prawns
  • 300 g of grated kohlrabi
  • 2 pieces of onion (large heads)
  • 50 ml of oil
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped green leaves
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric
  • salt (pepper)
  • crushed hot pepper (a little)
  • baking soda (on the tip of a small knife)
  1. Cut the onion into cubes, grate the kohlrabi on a large grater, meat (I used white meat) into larger cubes 3x3x3cm.
  2. First, sauté the onion in hot oil with a little salt. After 5 minutes, add very little baking soda, stir, reduce the temperature to a minimum and cover. Onions will be quickly sautéed with soda and will be much sweeter and tastier.
  3. When 5 minutes have passed, the onion has all melted and now you can pour the grated kohlrabi, stir well and cover. Cabbage is not like potatoes and it takes much longer than potatoes to cook well. You should not add water, because the onion and kohlrabi will release a lot of liquid, and you always keep it covered so that the water does not evaporate. If you don't manage to save the liquid, add a little water until the kohlrabi is steamed.
  4. When the kohlrabi is almost ready, add the meat, chopped green leaves, pepper, hot pepper and stir. If you need to add water or if you have liquids from cooked soup. Make sure that there is not a lot of liquid because in the end it will be clear if there is excess liquid. At the end, when the meat is cooked, add turmeric and stir. Let it boil for just another 1-2 minutes and it's done.
  5. Cabbage and onion went well together and the result was a real goulash with a lot of juice and a wonderful taste.
If this dish would be for lunch, then replace the white meat with some stronger meat.
