According to the latest research, if you repeatedly refill the same bottle with water from the tap and cool it in the refrigerator - you are endangering your health - plastic bottles are a breeding ground for bacteria.
Many of us buy bottled water and then use the bottle for the next few days. Although this saves money and preserves the natural environment, this habit, according to the "Treadmill Review" team, is bad for health. This was announced by the site that evaluates fitness equipment "Treadmill Review", which analyzed how much bacteria is retained on water bottles, and the results showed that plastic is far from the best packaging.
Namely, the team sent the outlines of 12 reusable water bottles used by athletes for laboratory analysis, and the findings showed that the bottles contained a huge number of bacteria, more than 300.000 formed units per square centimeter.
"If we were to compare the level of harmfulness of consuming water from used bottles, then in layman's language we would say that it is a hundred times worse than if you licked your dog's toy", states the team.
Treadmill recommends stainless steel bottles or bottles, which should be washed as often as possible.
Results varied depending on the type of bottle. Bottles with a sliding cap contained the highest number of bacteria. They are followed by pressure-sealed bottles and ordinary screw-top bottles.
Straw bottles were found to be the "cleanest", but researchers say they also have only two units per square centimeter less than the average household mug.
