Slavic cake - Nada Georgijev-Gačić - Recipes and Cookbook online

Celebration cake.

Slavski cake, ingredients:

  • Soak 1 cube of yeast in a little warm water
  • add a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of salt, 1-2 tablespoons of flour and let it rise
  • 2 glasses (2 dl) of water
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • about 1 kg of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • lemon zest
  • 100 g of melted margarine
  • 2-3 teaspoons of salt

Celebration cake, preparation:

  • If the yeast is brewer's, then knead it first: crush it in a small bowl, pour lukewarm water and break the lumps, then add salt and flour to make a thin dough.
  • Put the container with yeast in a warm place (instant yeast is used directly -
    for every half kilogram of flour there is a bag of yeast). While the yeast is soaking, sift the flour into a mixing bowl and put it to warm well next to the stove.
  • Grate the lemon peel, add a little flour at a time and knead until the dough starts to separate from the bowl and caps start to pop out of it, it means that it has been mixed enough.
  • To make the dough even better, add a little bit of melted margarine (melt 100 g) while mixing, while wetting your hands, then continue mixing.
  • If you knead the dough like this, the cake will be much moister and tastier. Cover it with a cloth and leave it in a warm place next to the stove to rise.
  • It is finished when it fills the container, that is, when it doubles in size.
  • Deliver him to the board. It is made in the form of round bread and baked in a mold or deep pan.
  • It is important that it be "crossed", that it has a pattern in the form of a cross in the middle and that it is decorated with a wreath of braids.

Decorations for the celebration cake, ingredients:

  • 200 g of flour (for decorations I used sharp)
  • 100 g density
  • 1 spoon of salt
  • 1,5 dl of cold water

Decorations for celebratory cakes, preparation:

  • Mix flour, shortening and salt. Add 1 dl of water and mix with a fork. If the dough is still crumbly, add just a little more water. Mix again and so on until you have a dough that you can combine without it falling apart. The dough should not be soft, on the contrary. But it shouldn't split, but you can knead it nicely.
  • When you have kneaded the dough well, put it in a bag and put it in the fridge for 15 minutes.
  • Make everything you want in the house: birds (for health and happiness), grapes (for the vineyard to produce well), barrels (for everything in abundance in the house), a book (for the children to study well), and the most important decoration is a basket with the letters IS, HC, NI, KA (Jesus Christ wins), which is stamped with a wooden stamp in the middle of the cake.
