Sremac peas - Recipes and Cookbook online

Srem pea was usually, they say, prepared for hunters so that they would be ready to endure long walks through nature. This dish is part of the tradition and food culture of northern Serbia, i.e. Vojvodina, in a way that we all call "YET YOU ONCE EATEN GOOD...", as the lyrics of the popular song by Đorđe Balašević say.

Sremac peas, ingredients:

  • 500 g of peas
  • 250 g of mushrooms
  • 150 g of smoked bacon
  • 2 dl of cream (mileram, young cream)
  • so
  • beaver
  • fresh mint

Sremac peas, preparation:

  • Cut the smoked bacon into small pieces and fry until crispy. Add the mushrooms and simmer for a few minutes.
  • Boil peas.
  • Add the cooked peas to the bacon and mushrooms and simmer for a few more minutes.
  • When the dish is ready, stir in the sour cream and serve warm. Garnish with fresh mint leaves.
