Old fashioned vanilla cake with rum

How did our great-grandmothers and grandmothers make cakes? Old fashioned vanilla cake with rum, published in the magazine Ženski svet, February 1925.

Vanilla cake with rum

Knead on a board a dough of 210 g of butter, 210 g of flour, 210 g of fine sugar, 210 g of white ground almonds, 1 teaspoon of vanilla sugar, grated peel of 1 orange and 1-2 eggs.

Then divide it into four parts and roll out each one with a rolling pin to the size of the pan in which it will be baked.

Baked crusts are filled with rum cream. Spread the same cream on top and decorate with roasted white almonds.

Rum cake cream

Beat well the snow of 4 egg whites with 80 grams of sugar, beaten with a little vanilla and sifted. When it thickens, add 1-2 glasses of rum, mix everything gently and use it for various cakes and decorating them, as well as kohs and puddings, which will be discussed in the next issue.
