Old fashioned beer cookies - Danijela Žikić - Recipes and Cookbook online

Old fashioned pivčići cookies - beautiful, crumbly and tasty cookies! I remember how my mom often made them and they were one of the most beautiful cakes I remember from my childhood!

Old fashioned cookies, ingredients:

  • 500 ml of beer
  • 350 ml of oil
  • 1 baking powder
  • 1 kg of flour

For the filling:

  • 200 g of plum jam
  • 100 g of ground hazelnuts
  • 100 g of ground walnuts
  • 100 g of powdered sugar
  • 3 bags of vanilla sugar

Beer syrup:

  • 400 g of sugar
  • water as needed

Old fashioned cookies, preparation:

  • Pour beer, oil and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Mix with a spoon.
  • Gradually add flour, knead a soft dough. The dough has a lot of oil so it should not be too hard. It depends on the flour, sometimes you may not need the whole 1 kg of flour. The dough is good, when it does not stick to the palms, when making baskets.
  • Take walnut-sized balls from the dough.
  • Spread the ball in the palm of your hand, then add your choice of jam, walnuts or hazelnuts.
  • Gather the ends of the dough towards the middle, then make baskets.
  • Arrange in a baking tray.
  • Bake at 250 C for about 30 minutes.

Beer syrup:

  • Add sugar and enough water to cover. When it boils, cook for about 5 minutes.
  • Dip the hot pints in the syrup from all sides.
  • Mix powdered sugar and vanilla sugar.
  • Remove the beer balls from the syrup and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • Leave to cool.
  • Serve with tea or coffee!
