It used to be much easier for tremaroshes to relax and forget their fear: the open cockpit door just screamed: please, take a look at the casual duo at the controls! Sunglasses on the eyes, elegantly taxiing to the runway, hand over hand on the power lever, nosewheel rotation, one hand on the steering wheel, the other on the gas.
The juggling on the asphalt runway stops, the plane shakes towards the nearest cloud, a flash of the sun shines through the pilot's windshield, like a ball lightning, it leaves the cockpit and runs along the path between the passenger seats.
Everything came from that cockpit: the freshness of the air conditioning, the tranquility of the crew, the flash of the sun's rays on the first morning flight, the silent conversation of the pilot tandem when the plane calms down, having drawn everything that was making noise into the fuselage and wings. It seemed as if the flight attendants were also pouring out of the cockpit as they pushed the trolley with the first refreshments...
How many times have you craned your neck towards the aisle between the seats if you didn't know what those two are doing there and what kind of maneuver you should expect. You knew: as long as the cockpit door is open, everything is fine. When they close - some small whites are on the horizon. It is usually announced by a zing! and a lighted "tie up" announcement. A section with a restless flight, what else. Burst merrily through that too, even humming softly. The reason of cheerful gypsies, who are most happy when the weather turns dark and it starts to rain, because they know - what? - they know that after the rain comes the sun!
You enjoyed all this until the eleventh ninth of two thousand and one. And then everything changed. The cockpit door became armored and began to lock on the ground. You could no longer enter the cockpit with a camera and take a picture with the crew as a souvenir. Not even as a personal friend. Disbelievers no longer knew what was going on behind closed doors. Maybe the pilots are drunk? Maybe they've gone crazy? Maybe they can't even fly? Even worse – there may be no one in the cockpit! And the National Geographic TV channel is rocking more and more terrifying stories and testimonies about plane crashes every day, the ideal gasoline-soaked balm for the burning wound of the fear of death by air.
All this, of course, without coverage. Although, it's hard to resist conspiracy theories, not to mention prejudice. And so, while aviation continues to be bureaucratized (which is a separate topic, I have it planned), for those who still shy away from flying, I am preparing a video story about how we are a mutual friend - both yours and mine, you will see - just this summer they got rid of the fear of flying. And released.
