Svetosava pretzels - the school glory is approaching, St. Sava... I was especially looking forward to this glory when I was going to school, and that was elementary school.

This holiday had great significance for me at that time. With the choir, we had performances in the church with the Saint Sava hymn: "Let's cry out with love to Saint Sava..." And we didn't go to classes ;). We wore white shirts…

Grandma bought pretzels, it seems to me, at Uncle Jove's store. Because Saint Sava's Day is not the same without pretzels.

Of course, pretzels can also be made at home.

There are many recipes for Svetosava pretzels, I believe that everyone knows them because there is no philosophy involved.

Svetosavska pretzels - Grandma used to buy pretzels, it seems to me at Uncle Jove's store. Because Saint Sava's Day is not the same without pretzels. Of course, pretzels can also be made at home. There are a lot of recipes, I believe everyone knows them because there is no philosophy.

Svetosava pretzels, ingredients:

  • 500 g of flour (plus flour for shaping pretzels)
  • 3 dl milk (warm or water)
  • 50 g butter (melted or margarine)
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • 20 g of fresh yeast

For coating and sprinkling:

  • 50 ml of water
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • sea salt (as needed)

Svetosava pretzels, preparation:

  1. Knead the sourdough in the usual way, and you can also knead it by just stirring the yeast in milk or water and kneading the dough immediately, without letting the yeast rise.
  2. Wrap the dough and leave it in a warm place to double in size.
  3. Divide it into 10, 20 or more parts, make balls, let them rest for ten minutes, and then shape the pretzels by making a roll about 30 cm long.
  4. For the coating, boil water and add baking soda, cool the mixture and coat the pretzels, sprinkle them with salt and bake until golden brown (about 15 minutes) at 200 degrees.
  5. Note that the pretzels do not need to stand after shaping, they can be baked immediately.
