Only one in the future
In the future, only one "European" biscuit: food manufacturers for the East make products of lower quality than for the West

The German manufacturer Balzen has finally announced: in the future there will be only one "European" biscuit, BKTVnews.com reported the text published by Deutsche Welle (DV).

The accusations started from the Institute for Product Analysis in Hungary and Slovakia, but soon it became a political topic of the Visegrad Group, which, apart from these two countries, also includes Poland and the Czech Republic.

A whole series of international concerns for the European Union market offer completely different products under the same name: as a rule, they are higher-quality products for the West, and for the East, products with far more additives, aromas instead of natural ingredients and low-quality, that is, cheaper ingredients instead of "real" ones. states DV.

The accusation was sent to the European Commission on a political level, but as it is stated, the Western media also discovered that there is some truth in the so-called "Nutella conflict" - named after the famous spread whose ingredients and even taste differ significantly in the countries where it is sold.

As DV points out, the German TV channel VDR recently also published a report on a number of food products that, under the same name, have a completely different composition in the East and in the West.

It is known, according to DV, that they do this not only with food: for example, cosmetic products also know that their ingredients differ, although lower quality variants are often charged more in the East.

According to reports, ARD correspondent from Brussels Ralf Zina discovered this week that at least one German manufacturer has not only acknowledged the practice, but announced that it will no longer happen: Biscuit manufacturer Balzen, known for example for Leibnitz Biscuit, has announced that it will in the future, the biscuit "with butter" will really have butter and that the ingredients will be identical, regardless of where in the EU they bought their biscuit.

It is said that Balzen was an example of a company that drastically deceives consumers in Eastern Europe: for Western consumers, the biscuits really contained butter, but for the "poor people of Europe" they mostly contained palm oil and butter flavors.

But that natural oil with a specific taste in fresh form, somewhat reddish in color, can hardly be compared with the refined mass product offered to the world market - which is suspected to be harmful to human health.

According to DV, the representative of Balzen told the correspondent of ARD that since the beginning of July, the production of this biscuit producer in Poland has been going according to the "German" recipe, that is, with butter, not palm oil.

From that plant, as stated, Balzen's biscuits arrive in most of the "new" countries of the European Union, but it may take a few more weeks to solve the problems with the storage of the slightly more sensitive biscuits with butter and to get the packaging where the product's ingredients will be written exactly. That company no longer intends to make different products for different EU countries.

One often hears the argument of producers that they are "adapting" to the tastes of the market.

Specifically, writes DV, when it comes to Nutella chocolate spread, the ingredients are practically identical in Hungary and France, reveals VDR.
