Vasilica - Jelica Podraščanin - Recipes and Cookbook online

In Serbia, it is customary to make the Vasilica cake for Little Christmas, which in some regions is in the form of a scone, while in Vojvodina it is similar to the garlic Christmas cake.

The difference between these two cakes is that in addition to the bark, walnuts, sugar, honey, oil, raisins are also added to the vasilica. In the past, barks were not bought as they are today, but the housewives stretched them themselves.

Basil, ingredients:

  • 500 g of bark,
  • 150 g of honey,
  • 300 g of walnuts,
  • 300 g of crystal sugar,
  • 200 g of raisins,
  • half a glass of oil and water.

Vasilica, preparation:

  • Mix ground walnuts, sugar and raisins.
  • Put parchment paper in the pan or grease it and put 2 crusts over which a little honey is poured with a spoon, some walnuts and sugar and raisins are sprinkled and sprinkled with oil and water.
  • Repeat this for each crust, until there are 2 crusts left, which are placed at the end and smeared with oil.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees until the garlic turns golden brown.
  • When it cools down, cut it into cubes.

Vasilica takes about 60 minutes to prepare. It is enough for 10 people.
